Black Excellence on Full Display: MIB at the Minnesota Black State Fair

If you’ve never been to the Minnesota Black State Fair, let me paint the picture for you: imagine an entire day where Black culture, Black business, and Black joy take center stage—unapologetically. That was the vibe this year, and Men In Black De-escalation was proud to be right there in the middle of it, keeping the flow smooth and the energy high.

The air was alive with music—from gospel harmonies to bass-heavy hip hop that had kids and elders moving in the same rhythm. Local vendors lined the streets, offering everything from soul food and African dishes to handmade jewelry, clothing, art, and skincare. Every booth told a story, every sale kept dollars circulating in our community.

This fair isn’t just an event—it’s a movement. It’s a reminder of our creativity, our hustle, and our power when we gather on purpose. Families came out in full force, young people networked and dreamed out loud, and elders shared wisdom that you couldn’t find in any textbook.

MIB’s role was to make sure everybody could enjoy themselves without worry. We walked the grounds, checked in with vendors, helped folks find lost items (and sometimes their friends), and stayed ready for any situation that could shift the mood. But just like with the Liberian Day Parade, the beauty was in how little we had to intervene—the love in that space was self-sustaining.

We believe in protecting more than people—we protect moments. The kind of moments where a kid sees someone who looks like them running a business, where an elder gets to witness the next generation carrying the torch, where strangers leave as friends.

To everyone who stopped by to say hello, share a meal, or thank us for being there—we see you, and we appreciate you. The Minnesota Black State Fair was more than a celebration; it was a statement. And MIB is always here to make sure statements like that are heard loud and clear.
